We can leave it up to Trustee Mark Evans to explain his use of a lawsuit to persecute his perceived political enemies at Etna’s taxpayers’ expense. Yet conservatively, Evans has spent $160,000 attacking just the Hansons. Evans, under oath (the only place he can answer a question without an 800-word Facebook post)– on Friday, September 6, 2024, had to admit some of his abusive behavior, and that, along with the absurdity of suing yourself, and not properly prosecuting the case, was ordered to pay the Hansons (8900 National Rd Co) for the frivolous lawsuit; an estimated $30,000 for Etna’s legal fees and $27,000 for the Hansons’ fees. Etna was found liable for Hansons’ legal fees of $27,030.72.
You see, it costs the bully NOTHING in a public setting to persecute his enemies! Since the township slow-walks public records, it is hard for taxpayers to know what the township is spending their money on. You can hardly blame the township attorneys. They are in the business of billing $350 an hour. It is good to have clients spending someone else’s money. Cost is irrelevant. Would Trustee Evans have pushed such a specious case if “his” money were at risk?
It is never good to be sued, but it is intimidating when your bully has $10 million of taxpayer money in the bank. Evans, in his brief career, has cost Etna Township more than $250,000 in attorney fees, attacking his perceived enemies and former trustees (still waiting on records for exact amounts of money spent on legal in the Evans reign of terror).
Evans, through media and court judgments, has solidified his most common moniker: The Bully of the Township. He has turned his smear nozzle on the guy lighting the cannon below, his best friend from earlier this year, Gary Burkholder.
From the Hansons’ perspective, they have no axe to grind with the Township. They feel that the folks of Etna should have all the information regarding Evan’s behavior, the results of his behavior, and the financial costs of his toddler and antisocial fits. Once all the records are released, a comprehensive report can be prepared on the cost of 3 years of Trustee Evans.
